Monkey Island

Monkey Island is
located about 1 km as the crow flies from Cat Ba town. To get to Monkey
Island, tourists usually take a boat from Beo pier, which takes about 10
minutes, passing through Cai Beo fishing village, several small islands,
and then straight to Monkey Island.
Previously, the monkey island was called Pineapple Island because there
were many wild pineapple trees on the island whose fruit looked
delicious but was inedible. Fishermen often came to collect them to soak
in water for a refreshing drink or dried them to use as medicine for
diabetes.
Nowadays, the island is commonly known as Monkey Island. The reason is
that there are more than 20 monkeys on the island. They often come down
to the beach to play with tourists, eating food given by visitors such
as bananas, apples, tangerines, and sweets. These playful monkeys
climbing and frolicking create a lasting impression on those who visit,
and gradually people have come to call it Monkey Island.
Monkey Island has a circumference of approximately 3 km. It's a
mountainous island with sandy beaches formed over millions of years by
waves and wind carrying sand, rocks, coral, and various marine life
shells such as snails, clams, shrimp, and crabs to the foot of the
mountains, creating a beach stretching for kilometers. Monkey Island has
two crescent-shaped beaches: Cat Dua Beach 1 and Cat Dua Beach 2. Cat
Dua Beach 1 is longer and has a military barracks. This is an ideal
beach for tourists visiting Cat Ba because the sea water here is
incredibly clear and blue. Services here include thatched-roof
restaurants where visitors can sit and enjoy the sea breeze, buy drinks,
eat ice cream, etc., along with some services such as renting swimwear,
floats, and kayaks. In the summer, when the beaches in Cat Ba town
become crowded, Monkey Island beach is the ideal place for tourists who
want to avoid the hustle and bustle of beach life. Monkey Island beach
is ideal for groups or families because there's plenty of space and it's
easier to keep an eye on children.
Cat Dua 2 beach is located on the right side, hidden behind a
tiger-shaped rock formation. The beach has a large garden spanning
several hundred square meters, featuring various plants such as wild
pineapples, sea almond trees, fig trees, white apple trees... and many
different bird species.
Upon arriving at Monkey Island, some adventurous tourists may climb
halfway up the mountain, or even to the very summit, to take in the
panoramic view of Lan Ha Bay with its hundreds of large and small
islands rising from the clear blue water, dotted with fine white sandy
beaches in the distance.
Currently, tourists can visit Monkey Island and stay at Monkey Island
Resort in Cat Dua 2 beach. The resort has 30 rooms built in the style of
thatched-roof bungalows. Each bungalow is a guest room equipped with air
conditioning, hot and cold shower, TV, electric fan... and free internet
and Wi-Fi. This is truly an ideal place for you to relax, swim in the
sea, and enjoy delicious food at the restaurant right next to the
beautiful beach.
Indeed, Monkey Island has become a highlight of Cat Ba tourism with its
natural gifts, bungalow accommodations, and tourist services that
provide visitors with the vacation they desire.
